Odisha’s winning run in the East Zone Senior Women`s T20 Cricket Tournament came to an end when they lost to Assam by six wickets in their last league match at Jamshedpur today. But despite the defeat, Odisha, who earlier won their first three matches against Jharkhand, Tripura and Bengal, qualified for the knock-out stage with 12 points from four matches.
India all-rounder Reema Malhotra bagged three wickets and hit an unbeaten 33 to help Assam register their third straight win. Electing to bat, Odisha were restricted to 98 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs. Assam overhauled the target with 11 balls to spare.
Odisha got off to a good start with international Madhuri Meheta (40 off 52 balls) and captain Madhusmita Behera compiling 51 runs in 12.4 overs for the opening wicket. But the team failed to cash in on the advantage as seven wickets tumbled in addition of 47 runs. Latika Kumari and Nisha Sharma were other notable performers for Assam, bagging three wickets and scoring 30 runs respectively.
